Some time in the last few days I missed the very important announcement that Rebuke would be moved out of the Ret Talent Tree and become a baseline Paladin ability. While this is a very nice quality of life change for us and I am already welcoming it for when the guild hits Maloriak its by far more useful in PvP.
Enjoyed at the end of Wrath and really shining at the beginning of Cataclysm Prot was the Paladin DPS PvP spec of choice due to its superior survivability, utility and equal damage compared to Ret. However as Ret got buffed into its rightful place and with Prot really feeling the effects of any form of CC due to its lose of a magic cleanse, Prot was losing its viability.
With Rebuke coming baseline Prot gains a foot hold again strengthened by the increased damage of Crusader Strike. Sure Prot's damage still will not match Ret's unless we are focused on to build Vengeance but Rebuke puts us very strongly in a support roll for 3's or 5's.
Lets look at what Prot Paladins can bring to the team.
Firstly and most obviously is Avengers Shield, not only does this hit hard but if you glyph it right it will help to combat or kite-ability by slowing opponents while keeping them silenced and unable to retaliate.
Next is JotW which combats my biggest dislike of the spec in Wrath by removing our need for Divine Plea. Thanks to this Mana will almost never be and issue and Mana Drains will not longer be so terrifying.
JotJ works beautifully to help stem the flow of DPS from Melee and Hunters for both you and your team mates.
Vindication works wonders coupled with JotJ to further cripple those melee DPS.
WoG provides some welcomed relief for your healer and can help to hold team members alive for critical seconds should your healers be stunned or silenced etc.
Divine Guradian come unique to us and really shows just what our class is about in PvP, saving others. Perfect for use at the start as everyone starts taking that initial damage or when the opposition starts zerging your healer.
From the Ret tree we bring the staples of;
Crusade brings more aid to the healer as every death you bring about only strengthens your team.
Finally the new PoJ. Should the enemy try to prevent you doing your job you only come back stronger bringing the burst with SoR or backing up your healer in a tight spot with more WoG.
With all of these ability's we also carry HoJ and now Rebuke, making us not only support but also an annoyance for any caster that we can stay in melee of namely healers.
Braking it down we have AS on a 15sec CD with a chance to proc and a 3 sec silence. We then have old HoJ with a talented CD of 40 seconds for a 6 second stun. Finally we now have Rebuke a 4 sec school lockout and interrupt off the GCD with a 10sec CD.
All 3 of these together give us 6+ seconds of AS silence, 6 seconds of stun and 16 seconds of Rebuke lockout every 40 seconds.
That is 28+ seconds of every 40 seconds that we could potentially lock out a healer, now think about that when you doubt Prot's use in PvP.

4.0.1 and PvP
As many of you probably know by now the end of Season 8 for Arena has brought about Wrathful gear being sold regardless of previous arena standings. As a result large numbers of people including myself, have been swarming the BG's for the long grind to buy some new gear.
Not only was this a change to buy my first ever PvP Shield(and possibly the only skin of Icecrown Glacial Wall that I will get) and my first PvP Weapon since Kara, but It was a prime chance to see how well Prot was doing in PvP after the big changes.
The first and most obvious change was that as expected I could no longer burst down a healer in the space of one Avengers Shield, Hammer of Justice combo. However this was offset by the increase in AS use thanks to the shorter CD and Grand Crusader.
The other thing that is now a boost when taking on a healer is my improved healing thanks to Word of Glory, while I may not be able to always kill them I can sure outlast them and their small damage thanks to this lovely spell. This of cause lead me to redo my specs to include one all purpose tank spec, dropping EG and IJ to improve my AoE and one pure DPS spec with full points in Eternal Glory. It is wonderful just how useful that chance at a free WoG is at ether pulling me from the edge or keeping the pressure on the healer while keeping myself up.
I really am using this far more than I though I would, not just for myself but to top off other to.
The next obvious change and to me the most welcomed is the removal of Divine Plea as a crutch for our mana management. While this change was nice in PvE, to me it was a must for PvP. As a Prot Pally there was nothing worse than having DP drop of for what ever reason and be completely useless for the next 30-45 sec while you wait for the CD to drop.
Thanks to this I have only had to stop to drink in very taxing time such as having to rely on my own heals to top up before the next fight/helping to heal someone. It is truly freeing to be able to use what I need to when I need to and not worry whether DP will let me.
On the point of heals, not having DP up constantly means that if we are needed to top off a Flag Carrier or what not mid fight we can without being gimped.
As for our nerfs I quickly felt the lack of a magic dispel with Frost Mages etc becoming considerably harder to kill. Hand of Freedom helps but that CD drags out forever then you can't Crusader Strike because they are just out of melee range.
The removal of Sacred Shield is also felt alot particularly against Rogues and Locks whose DoT's would be eaten by the shield, I now take the full hit and combined with an increase in stun potential from rogues I am no longer their worst nightmare. Sure I can still blow them up particularly if I enter combat with full Holy Power but the balance has indeed shifted.
A particularly nice change that has gone quite un recorded is that when you rez in a BG you come back with full HoPo. While this is not to useful most of the time it does come in very handy when the Horde are at your GY/Base so that you can some out swinging. I have still yet to check if this only works in BG's or if it always happens on rez.
Overall I have noticed I take a lot more damage, however with WoG I can also survive a lot longer which in most cases ends up as an increase. I really cannot wait to test us out at 85 with the new Pursuit of Justice and a strong Arena team, I am confident we will be more annoying to caster and more useful to friends than ever before. My only problem now is that more than ever I feel we need a separate spec for PvP, at lease for hybrid classes.

And the Title to Back it Up.
This post has been a long time coming now, not just because I have not been posting much but also because I have been working on it for many many months now.
Before I get into that lets run down whats been happening in game lately.
Currently our guild is not moving in its Hardmode attempts for Putricide and Sindy due to many players away on holiday and taking breaks from WoW. Mostly we have been filling the time by running BG's, doing Arena and PUGing 25mans. Most 25man's have been quite fail with the one I went on falling apart on Putricide, the sad part was that we almost one shot him but failed due to a useless tank.
Picture this, a T9 and relative geared Warrior that at times held his own in threat against me,I seemed a little low and surly he should not be able to pull that in his gear as he seemed to have no clue.
On Stinky he failed to taunt despite multiple calls on vent from myself and the RL, I managed to bubble with a 10 stack at 200 health yes 200!!!.
From there I started watching him and it just got worse. It wasn't till Festergut that I realized he had been vigilancing me right from the start. When I asked him why his reason was "So I can get free taunts." He refused to stop when asked to. While this might hold up on trash all it was doing for boss fights was limiting my threat and therefor the damage of our DPS. Needless to say I clicked it off every time I saw it on me.
It was an interesting Festergut where I had to hold back on damage because an un Righteous Furyed me with 9 stacks was about to pull off a Defensive Stance him at 7 stacks. He also completely panicked when I did not taunt off him at 8 stacks of the debuff.
Then we were off to Purticide where the third tank took the Abom as RL's friend and I thankfully was given MT duty, the Warrior was only required to hit things yet still managed to get a few killed by screwing up then targeted by the Ooze. Despite a few death we had everyone Brezed and up for phase 3. I started kite at 2 stacks I waited half a second for the taunt the called out on vent, no reply. After a few more calls for a taunt aimed directly at the Warrior the third tank steps in and picks him up moments before the next stack. When that tank hit 2 stacks the taunt was called and nothing happened, I took him from the third knowing I was more geared to handle it but the next stack was coming, thankfully the Warrior taunted before then. After his taunt he proceeded to stop kiting, he stood dead smack in the middle of the slime pool. The third tank, a few healers and myself were all yelling at him "Move the Boss" "Get out of the slime" but it was two late we had lost or DPS and it was a wipe at 2%. From that point on everyone just lost interest and attempts go worse and worse, we called it a night after we knocked out a quick Valithria just a few minutes before the instance server reset.
One good thing did come from that run, I finally got this.

With most of my time spent now in PvP I have once again built a decent PvP set(after deleting my last one because I thought I would never use it).
I joined an 3v3 Arena team with my partner and a hunter from guild and together we hit the 900 mark. Since then the hunter has left and been replaced with another Officer from guild, a DK who is quite good at PvP. With this team of Unholy DK, Prot Pally and Resto Shammy we have worked up to almost 1300 and having alot of fun doing it.
Of cause to go with Arena I have also been doing a lot of BG's netting me all these shiny new Achievements.

Finally I got back to finishing something I started a long time ago, Loremaster.
Originally I worked for quite a while on it and upon reaching 50 quests to go I took a break, I mean hey I had 6+ months till Cataclysm right. when realizing that Cataclysm was approaching fast and I was almost out of time I got back into the grind. Knocking out Kalimdor's last quests was not an easy task, particularly for someone still hated with the Goblins after Bloodsail Rep farming. The first 30 were relatively easy just going place to place picking up available quests.
The next 15 were a little harder, I had to download Everyquest and backtrack through zones finding quests that I had missed.
One particular quest came from my starter zone in Azuremyst Isle. Those that have leveled there will know it, those that don't here is some back story. You are sent to find and help a Night Elf fisherman on a small Island to the south. When you get there you find him alone crying on a wharf and his home has been destroyed by falling pieces of the Exodar as it crashed, to make matters worse the shards have driven the local Owlbeasts crazed and they have eaten his family. He gives you the gruesome task of killing the beasts and pulling his family's remains from their stomachs. That is where I thought the story ended for this poor elf. Little did I know that once that quest is completed a new quest appears to the far north, having always Hearthed or swam back I had always missed it and so had everyone I knew. Hidden behind a log to the opposite side of the Island was this mans Daughter, she had escaped from the Beasts when they attacked and ate her mother. You escort her back across the Island killing Owlbeasts as you go until finally after 3 long years(since I was there) she is returned to her father. It was beautiful to see such a sad story from my gaming past finally have a happy ending.

So now I had met a Titan Avatar,

had feasts in my honor,

helped the Gnomes in recovering their home city,

Collected all my AQ mounts

and saved a mans heart and Daughter.
The final grind was on for the last 3 quests. It would of been easier if the Goblins didn't hate me as I had at least 50 I could have done for them. Instead I choose to grind out Neutral with the Brood of Norzdomu and start the Scepter of the Shifting Sands line.
It took a lot of grinding to get there over the weekend but I was finally Neutral

and off to see a Dragon about a ring and some lore.

Then with the story told of the sealing of AQ and the creation of the Scepter I was done.

Finally a Loremaster.

With Loremaster done I only have one more thing on my list I would like to finish before Cataclysm and that is finish Thunderfury. When will you drop my Binding Garr:( .More than 70 runs under my belt for that thing, statistically I'm well past the 80% chance it should have dropped by now . I guess he just does not like me, or anyone, there are 4 others in my guild waiting for that drop alone not including Rhidach and others in the tanking com unity.

Give Me all Your Downtime.
It's been a little quiet here at the moment, part of it is my fault for not trying to post but really I don't want to force myself to make a post just to fill spots, I would rather wait until I have something worth posting.
There was been a few interesting things going on in the Beta, many little tweaks and changes, some nice like the return of the Prot interrupt but mostly its just down to number fixes now. That of cause is a good thing because number fixes mean almost there and with the Gnomer and Zalazane events live and 4.0 on the PTR we really can't be far from my mid-late Nov release prediction for Cataclysm.
With the PTR up I will be on there hopefully as soon as this afternoon and getting used to the new rotation and Holy Power so I can still tank on release day.
As for in game not much special has been going on, after a few weeks of bad raids and attendance issues we will be back to the hardmode progression next week *knock on wood* and that's mostly it.
I really should be getting back to Lore Master if Cataclysm is so close, with only 100 quests left I am almost done, but with my Bloodsail rep stopping me from doing Goblin quests I may have to start scraping the barrel before the end.
I have been spending alot of time on the Auction House currently also, burning out my stock of gems, while keeping a small inflow going as well(you can never have to much gold). I plan to get much more involved in the AH come Cata, as such alot of my current gold reserve and income is going into stocking up on materials that hopefully will be profitable come Cataclysm.
Finally I have started building my PvP set up again. Originally I had an average set of PvP gear with mostly Furious and the smaller Wrathful but I deleted it when I lost the bug back on ICC release. Now I have started again putting my unused Frost Emblems into 3/4 Relentless. I have still to test out my PvP gear since then but the extra 400 Resilience should help alot. I am PvPing as Prot, mostly because I know my way around Prot more than Ret but also because I find it more fun.
Hopefully shortly we will put together a guild 3v3 team and try to get up to 1800+ rating in practice for Cataclysm. Until then many of us are spending alot of time in BG's ether solo or in groups, mostly for honor but we are also practicing for the Rated Battle Grounds.
The best time I have had yet was yesterday in EotS, while most of the group went to take the bases and try for the Horde bases myself and an Elemental Shaman went for the flag. Originally there were a few others with us but when the majority of the horde died they left to defend our bases from assault leaving me and the Shaman alone. For the next 10 minuets the two of us alone held the flag against approximately 7-9 Horde that came in waves for 2-4 people, by the time one wave died there was almost no time to drink before the next hit. One such wave came with a Resto Druid, Holy Pally, Ret Pally and a very geared Rogue, all of which we were able to take down. Over and over I solo'ed down healers while the Shaman Thunder Stormed Horde off the cliff. After 10 min of killing straight Horde without death, they finally grouped into one big wave and stormed the middle. We were out numbered and would soon fall, but not before taking down half of their force. It was alot of fun, I ended up coming second overall with almost 1000k damage done with 3 deaths over 21min.
Finally it has now been almost 8 months since I started blogging and boy has alot happened since then. Now while my writing has improved since day one I still have far to come. I was never good at writing and never really did well in English as a result, sure I could talk your ear off on any topic I'm passionate on but I am terrible when it comes to putting that to paper(text in this case).
What I wish to ask of you reader is for feedback, any suggestions or comments on the blog, thing you like, things you hate, any way you think I could improve I want to hear it all. If you have any comments then please speak up ether as a comment on this post or if you want via email at vindicatororthien@gmail.com, thank you in advance you any advice you many have.
